Clicker Dog Training is a great way to train your dog without having to make any kind
of physical corrections.
There is no pulling on the leash or moving the dog
around, somehow hoping that the dog understands your commands because your are using brute
force.
The clicker itself, looks like a simple plastic toy.
There really isn't much to it. It contains a metal strip which, makes the "clicking" sound. The premise
behind the clicker is basically to act like a translator between the dog and you.
Its a way that we can signal the dog into performing a
certain behavior. The more the dog does it, the more it shapes his behavior.
In the beginning stages of clicker dog training, you will have to add a treat to go along with the click. So
whenever the dog instantly hears the click, he will be getting a treat.
Hopefully after awhile, the dog will be happy just to
hear the click. He will know and understand the positive reinforcement of clicking sound.
It's very similar to Pavlov and his dogs that drooled,
everytime he rand the bell, because they thought they were going to eat. Its the same kid of correlation dogs
use all the time.
For example if you get your coat or your keys, your
dog instantly knows that you are going out and hopefully (in his mind) will be going for a
walk.
Eventually, the dog will start to understand the
desired behavior you want him to do, whether it be "sit", "roll over", "come", etc.... without even needing
to hear the click.
Clicker
training is not just used for dogs, but all kinds of animals. This proven scientific method is
exactly the same technique that trainers in Sea World, use for to train dolphins, whales, seals, etc...
This isn't just
meant for dog training.
It also really shortens the training curve that
certain dog owners face with their dogs. It's a much faster way to teach the dog right from wrong. Its
positive and gentle.
There is no intimidation involved, and it really is
the best form cooperative dog training.
