It is kind of a mystery to most people. But let's be honest, dogs aren't really picky eaters. They'll pretty much put anything in their mouths.

As long as you don't have any pesticides in your grass, it really isn't that unhealthy, and something you should be really concerned with.

But lets examine the reasons why some dogs eat grass. I know this may sound funny but some dogs actually like the taste of grass. Weird, but true. Remember out in the wild, dogs are scavengers that eat both meat and plants, so its really not that unnatural.

It could also mean that the dog has an upset stomach, and since obviously he can't put his paw down his throat to enduce vomiting, he uses the grass as a way to trigger vomiting, and relieve his stomach pain.

Other people believe the dog is just craving more fiber. Just like humans who tend to get "backed up" the dog will try to consume food that will fill this void.

To increase fiber intake, there are some veterinarians who recommend giving your dog a piece of broccoli. You can of course buy dog food, that is strictly high in fiber, but those can be quite expensive.

Some dogs might not even eat the broccoli, whole like that, so you might have to blend it, before they would eat. You could even add a little bit of chicken broth for flavor.

Worse comes to worse, you can take some bran and sprinkle it over their food. Honestly, dogs eating grass is really not that drastic of an issue.

Many people believe that its really serious, and frankly, that's just not the case. Dogs have been eating grass for thousands of years now, and there has been absolutely no evidence that it cases any harm to them.

Just make sure not to put any chemicals in your yard, because that is a different story altogether.
