I know that watching your dog eat poop is
pretty disgusting, but usually there are some valid reasons why
the dog is doing that, and its usually a cry for
help.
To begin with, you may be feeding your dog an
insufficient amount of nutrients or just feeding him food that
is completely inappropriate.
Due to the poor food he has been eating, the
dog is compelled to eat more to satisfy the body's cravings for
its lacking nutrients.
The stool samples smell quite similar to what
the dog has been eating, so he attempts to consume it
again.
Its also somewhat common for dogs that have
just come from the kennel. The dog might have previously eaten
his poop as a way to clean out his personal area. Believe it or
not, sometimes it could just mean that the dog is
bored.
Many dogs are often left alone or tied down
to a small area, which can cause emotional stress, and this is
how they react. If the dog feels that it will be punished for
pooping inside, he will eat the poop to avoid being
punished.
Some solutions for getting your dog to stop
eating poop are: Getting him healthier
food. If you are
not sure what to get him, just ask your vet to see if he can
recommend a certain diet that would be suitable for the kind of
dog you have. (age, size, breed)
The moment after the dog
poops,
Pick it up and dispose of
it. Don't give
the dog a chance. Walk your dog on a
leash. If you see
the dog getting close to the poop, give the leash a little tug
and simultaneously say "LEAVE IT".
Make sure to reward the dog if he complies
without any hassle. Tell him he's a good dog and give him a
little treat. Get
a dog walking schedule and stick to
it.
This is important, especially if your dog is
pooping
inside the home.
Exercise, Exercise,
Exercise.
Exercise is always great for both the mind and body of
the dog. One of them is obviously the reason for this bad
habit. Have
Playtime with the dog.
Like I said, sometimes dogs are just lonely.
Take the time and make conceded effort to play with your dog.
It will brighten up his spirits.
