But of course, just
saying it isn't going to mean a
whole lot. You are going to have to express it in a firm tone and manner.
I've seen people that plead
to their dogs in a wimpy voice to sit. That's just not going to cut it. You have to say SIT!!!! The dog will eventually get
used to the word and it will become like second nature after a while.
These short, direct words
will always grab the dog's attention. He has gotten used to the way you naturally speak, that he knows when you are
just casually talking to him and when you mean business like when you say SIT!!!!
He can distinguish between
the two. Then, later on you can get to the other more common dog training commands, like STAY, which is perfect for the dog that likes
to trample you over when you first get back from work.
Also, when you are first teaching these dog training
commands to the dog, make sure you have little treats for him when he obeys you. He'll consider it like a
payment.
He does something good, he gets a treat. After a while
he'll just start obeying even though he doesn't get a treat. It's important when you are first
practicing your dog training commands not to give the dog treats for no good reason,
even when you are not training him.
It's like if you were a boss and you gave your
employees extra money for just showing up. Obviously, they are going to get very spoiled if you treated them
this way. It's the same exact thing for a dog. Pretend the treats are like cash. Then you'll know when best
to use them.
