Dog Training Information For
Kids When Meeting New Dogs
Here is just
some basic dog training information for those people that
have kids which might encounter new
dogs.
I know
there are a lot of readers of my blog that have children
and I just wanted to go over some things that all
children should know about dogs. So, here is just some
basic dog training information for those people that have
kids which might encounter new dogs. I know that some of
this may seem like common sense, but I always want to
make sure I am covering my bases.
- Just
because a dog is waving its tail, it doesn't mean
that he is friendly. Don't just assume
that.
- When
meeting a new dog, let the dome come to you, not the
other way around. Also when the dog comes to you, let
him smell you, as a sign trust.
- When a
new dog comes near, always try to stay calm. Don't
get tense and for goodness sake, don't scream as that
will only make the dogs jumpy.
- If a
dog ever jumps on you and takes you to the ground,
just curl up in a little ball.
- Whenever you encounter a friendly
dog, you can give him the palm of your hand to smell.
As long as he is still nice and friendly, you can pet
him in the cheeks area.
- Don't
ever tease a dog (rather obvious, I
know)
- Try not
to stare at the dog
- If you
see a mother dog tending to her pups, let her be.
Don't bother her.
- If you
see a hurt dog, don't try to help him yourself.
Always find an adult.
These are
just pretty common tips to teach your children about
dogs. Most kids just love dogs, but they have to know
that not all dogs are created equal. Just like humans,
you've got some dangerous dogs out there. So it is always
best to take the cautious road.
