Here is
just a basic outline of what you should expect to do when
you are trying to teach obedience for
dogs.
First, it
is important that your obedience training sessions be
short. Your dog will be bored and you'll be bored if you
try to make the sessions too long, and not much will be
accomplished.
Making the
training part of your routine will keep the training
meaningful to your dog. As you're moving around your home
and your puppy is following along, make sure they have
something to do, as well.
Walking
from your bedroom to the bathroom, keep your dog on his
toes (not literally of course). While walking, tell him
to "sit".
While you
are making your coffee in the morning, tell him to
"heal". make it a daily routine. Offering a reward is
also essential in the proper training of a dog, as it
speeds up the learning process.
You will
want to create situations in which your dog will have the
opportunity to behave properly and win a reward. Praise
is also a form of reward so you should lavish it on your
dog whenever he behaves correctly.
Don't
ignore your dog when he behaves the way you want him to.
Let him know when he's a good dog, just as you let him
know when he's been a bad dog.
Good
behavior deserves just as much attention as bad behavior.
Use the carrot and the stick equally and you will have
better results training your dog.
It is a
mistake to repeat the same negative commands to your dog,
if he won't listen the last time any more than he did the
first. He will just think you are barking at him and he
might just bark back, but he won't
obey.
It is
important to praise your dog for good behavior as well as
try to correct him of the bad behavior. If you catch your
dog in the act of committing a bad behavior then
reprimand him immediately. If he obeys, you can reward
him.
If he does
not obey, it may be best to just ignore him, as the time
to strike has passed.
