Stop Dog Licking When It Gets
To Be Excessive
To stop
dog licking, you are going to have to get to the root of
the problem. It's usually one of two things. It's either
a medical problem or a behavioral
problem.
To stop dog licking, you are going to
have to get to the root of the problem. It's usually one
of two things. It's either a medical problem or a
behavioral problem.
If its a medical problem, it's usually due to
the fact that the dog may have some
allergies.
This could be caused by where the dog sleeps,
the kind of soap that you use when you bathe him, or some kind
of odor in your home that he is not reacting well
to.
Go take him to the vet to have the dog
checked and see if its based on a medical problem such as an
allergy. If that is the case, the vet will prescribe something
for the dog and that should take care of that
problem.
Sometimes, its as simple as the dog is too
dirty and he is trying to clean himself. Give him a bath and
see if it has a positive effect.
However, if that isn't the case, then chances
are, it's based on some kind of behavioral reaction. In some
cases, its just a basic need for attention.
The dog hopes you see him, and will come over
to check on him. Give your dog a little more attention and see
if this is the root cause of it. He also may be under
stress.
This is fairly common for a new dog.
Everything is new and different to the dog and he still hasn't
gotten comfortable yet with his surroundings.
It also may just be a bad habit, like
children who are anxious and bite their nails. The dog might be
going a little stir crazy, and he may not be getting enough
exercise.
Take a tennis ball and go outside and play
fetch with him for a little bit. He'll release some of the
nervous energy that he has, which will settle his
nerves.
When you take home, really notice if it has
made any difference. Unfortunately with something like this,
there is no
one solution that fits all problems. You
are going to have to experiment a little bit.
